Earlier today many students were targeted by the NYPD at Columbia University at the invitation of the President of Columbia Minouche Shafik. There were many that were arguing for Peace at the University until the president determined this group arguing for Peace was too much for Columbia and suspended it. Those that are not familiar with the Chapter they have stood up for many past issues that have come up. They worked towards trying to free Dareen Tatour from prison after she was jailed in Israel for writing a poem from what is argued the beacon of Free speech in the Middle East... Israel. They fought the Antisemitism Awareness Act (2016) which would of brought Israel's type of free speech to the US by criminalizing criticism of the Israeli government in hopes of bringing their peace to the US. Fairly recently we have seen reports from people like Itamar Ben Gvir the National Security Minister in Israel call for killing prisoners being held currently to ease overcrowding in prisons in the name of peace. The IDF has been using recordings of women and children to lure people in Gaza to kill them. Senator Bill Hagerty has come out in protest against Biden as Biden administration declares it will punish people that were caught torturing elderly people.

We will see as things progress how things go in the near future. There are rumors from random people that I have spoken with online discussing new and improved ways to help promote peace further at Columbia. There were talks of disbanding debate teams and rebuilding the teams into teams that simply only agree with approved messages of the university only. Some have talked about even trying to resurrect U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy in hopes that the University could promote more peaceful ideas like a reintroduction of McCarthyism but directed at people that speak against Israel as that would be very Anti-American of them to do. As Benjamin Franklin once said we should all give up our freedoms for a little bit of peace. Clearly there is no reason to not be willing to give up American freedoms to support Israel's goals also.
